Types of driveways

  • Tarmac driveway: Smooth, dark and uniform in appearance. Tarmac is hard-wearing and well suited to heavy use while still being very cost effective
  • Concrete driveway: Light grey with a traditional look that suits most properties. Extremely durable and low maintenance with strong weather and temperature resistance
  • Asphalt driveway: A sleek black surface with a softer, more refined finish than tarmac. Comfortable to drive on and long lasting for easy care and maintenance
  • Micro-asphalt driveway: Applied as a thin layer for quick asphalt driveway repair without full resurfacing or replacement. Improves appearance and extends surface lifespan
  • Gravel driveway: Loose stone laid over a compacted base for a natural, rustic appearance. Very affordable with good drainage and simple installation
  • Resin-bound driveway: A smooth, stone-filled surface with a modern, decorative finish available in many colours. Permeable by design to help drain away water
  • Resin-bonded driveway: A textured finish where stones sit on top, creating a natural gravel-like look. Provides food grip with a distinct finishing without loose stones

Driveway Surfacing and Repair FAQs

What is driveway surfacing?

Driveway surfacing involves paving the entryway to your property to allow easy access for people and vehicles.

We can:

  • Repair your damaged driveway by filling cracks and potholes
  • Lay a fresh driveway surface over your existing driveway
  • Excavate land and lay a sublayer for new driveway installation

Popular driveway surfacing materials include asphalt, tarmac, concrete and resin.

How does driveway surfacing work?

If we’re laying a new driveway from scratch, we start by excavating the ground and installing a sublayer for structural integrity and drainage.

For resurfacing, this is already in place. So we instead prepare your driveway by cleaning it and repairing damaged sections.

Either way, we then lay a new driveway and compact it to create a smooth, durable and practical surface that looks fantastic.

What are the benefits of driveway surfacing?

Professional driveway surfacing can:

  • Increase property value by 5-10%
  • Give you a safe, convenient place to park
  • Improve safety by enhancing grip
  • Impress visitors, buyers and customers
  • Make your property more accessible

Should I get a new driveway?

Laying a driveway is a great way to transform unused space into a practical and attractive parking area. It also gives you an appealing entryway to your property.

For businesses, this gives potential customers an exceptional first impression. And for homeowners, it can bring greater satisfaction and even raise sale price.

How much does a driveway cost?

The cost of driveway surfacing depends on the size of the area, your chosen material and how much preparation work needs doing.

Repairs are fairly cheap. Crack filling can cost just £10-£15 per linear metre, and you can usually patch a pothole for £50-£150.

Resurfacing an existing driveway might cost £30-£50 per square metre for gravel or up to £50-£125 per square metre for concrete, which is much more durable.

And for a brand new 40m2 driveway installation, you might pay £2,500-£6,000 depending on material and complexity.

How long do driveway surfacing and repairs take?

We can usually carry out driveway repairs in a single day.

Resurfacing might take 1-3 days depending on the size.

And brand new driveway installation with excavation and base preparation could take up to a week.

You also need to give your driveway enough time to set and cure.

Resin driveways set in 4-6 hours, and cure in around 48 hours. But concrete can take 7 days to fully set and up to 30 days to cure for maximum strength.

How long will a professionally laid driveway last?

With quality installation and care, your driveway will typically last 10-25 years. And a concrete driveway can last 40+ years!

Regular cleaning, repair work and preventative maintenance measures like surface dressing and seal coating help extend driveway lifespan significantly.
