What is micro asphalt?

Micro asphalt is a cold-mix surfacing treatment made from a blend of bitumen emulsion and fine aggregates. It’s an effective preventative maintenance measure that slows deterioration on roads that are still functional but are showing early signs of wear.

The mixture fills in shallow imperfections, improving skid resistance and protecting the surface against further damage from vehicles and water penetration. This helps keep your road surface in good condition for several more years before full resurfacing becomes necessary.

When is micro asphalt used?

It’s best to apply micro asphalt paving when a surface is still structurally sound but beginning to age.

You can use it to treat light cracking, surface polishing and slight rutting, sealing defects and delaying the need for full resurfacing.

What surfaces can be repaired with micro asphalt?

You can repair most asphalt and tarmac surfaces with micro asphalt paving, as long as the base layers remain stable.

Residential streets, estate roads, cycle paths, car parks and lightly trafficked access routes all respond well. But areas with deep potholes, heavy cracking or subsidence need more extensive repair than micro asphalt can offer.

How long does it take to lay micro asphalt?

Since micro asphalt is a cold-mix treatment, installation, setting and curing are fairly quick.

We can complete smaller roads in just a few hours. And even larger sites generally take no more than one working day.

Once the material has set and cured (which often happens the same day), the road can reopen. This keeps traffic disruptions to a minimum, especially compared to full resurfacing.
